Written by Will Corley, Banana Split 1541 will split a seq file into two files with almost equal block lengths.  Ideal for word processors or bbs use.

Bi-directional File Reader by Lambert Klein (1989) - There are a lot of sequential file readers for the Commodore 64, but this is the first one I can recall that let's you go back and forth in a document while you're reading it.  Since the program is pretty small, you should be able to read some really big documents.  Plus, you can send the file to your printer and define how many columns wide you want to print.

Released in 1990 by Steve A. Dickinson. Bigfoot is a utility to print out to screen enlarged text from a sequential file. One of the neat features of the utility is that it will automatically scan a disk for .seq files and print them out. of course there is also the option for manual input.

The Chaos Chronicles Seq File Reader v1.1 by Stormbringer / Exodus is a really nice text file viewer with a built in fastload and even music.  What really stands out in this program is the ability to go up and down while reading the file.

Written By Fanjoy. Combine Seq lets you join two sequential files into one. You can choose the order of the join as detailed in the built-in help.

Doc-Viewer 2 by Mark A. Dickenson (1990) is a follow-up to the 1988 "Documentation Viewer" which was also a tool for viewing and / or printing sequential text files.  This newer version has some nice aesthetic improvements and quality of life enhancements such as the ability to pause or abort viewing.

E-Z Seq. Reader v4.4 for the Commodore 64 or 128 (supports both 40 and 80 Col. mode) by Steve D. Nichols.  Both screen and printer output is supported and I've included a couple interesting Seq. files for testing.

Don't ask me why, but I really find simple, small utilities like this to be really cool. This 7 block BASIC program by Steve D. Nichols 1986, will read a directory of a disk and let you chose which seq file you want to read or print out.

File Reader is a simple utility for dumping sequential (.seq) datafiles to the screen or printer.  One nice feature is that it has the ability to pause while outputting.  As a bonus, the docs on how to solve Ultima V are included on the disk.  Also the docs to Oil Imperium are on the disk.

File-Survey 2.7 by Ruediger Koehl (Willcox, 1998) is one of the best .SEQ (and also .PRG and Binary) file viewers I've run across.  Not only does this view files with the option to print, it also supports viewing (and printing) in 40 or 80 columns.  On top of that, it supports most RAM expansions and can use up to the max of 16MB.

This disk image is mainly German, but there is an English version of File-Survey along with an English translation of the docs.  I also need to give credit for this find to Baracuda because it was on a disk image he sent over.

Flash-Back v1.2 by Jim Rowell - Here we have a Commodore 64 program for printing out sequential files.  Although similar to Sprint and Ultra, this program offers some features that are unique.  I'll leave it up to you to read the 14 pages of documentation on the disk to uncover those nifty features.

Read Seq File by Kevin Quinn - This is a super tiny, extremely fast sequential file reader.  This is a machine language program in the form of a BASIC loader.

Russell's 64 Reader released 1990 by Russell Prater. This is a simple but nice Seq. file reader with the option to print to screen or printer. Can read files up to 185 blocks in size.

This handy text file reader is written in ML and is very snappy.  It also has a nice file selector and some other handy features.

Seq Lister is a very simple basic program that will list out a sequential file to screen or printer.

Released in 1985 By Jolly Joker - Write & Read Seq. Files. Nothing fancy here, but gets the job done.

Sequential Converter by Jim kelly is a tool to convert a sequential file to a program.  You can select what line number you want the program to start at and the step increment of the lines.

Sequential Disk File Printer by Marshall F. Schultz (Modified by M.W. Adams) - Sometimes it's a simple little utility like this that really comes in handy when you want a nice printout.  With Sequential Disk File Printer, you get a nice paginated printout with word wrap... what more could you ask?

File Buster by Charlie Young is a utility for breaking apart a large text files such as a BBS Sub-board log you captured from the last three years to catch up on old posts, but I digress. Heres a list of the features:

• One-pass text file splitter.
• Forget running an extractor several times on a large file.
• All resulting files small enough to load into your word processor.
• Can be used with one or more disk drives.
• Can split sequential or program (text only) files.
• Jiffy Dos compatible.
• CMD subdirectories supported. See CMD note.
• ML routine speeds reads and writes

Sequential File Recovery by Roy Riggs - This handly little utility for the Commodore 64 can help you salvage a sequential file that did close properly.  In situation where it can't detect the end of a file, you can manually tell it where to stop recovery.

By John Hobbs. Sequenzer lets you work with Sequential files. You can make, edit, view, print and more with this program. You can even send the data over a modem with the built in 1670 support.

Sprint IV (Mirage, 1987) - Nice little sequential (SEQ) file reader.  The nice thing about this utility is that when reading the file out to the screen, it goes slow enough that you can read it (on purpose).  You can also send the file to a printer.

Tex and Filo, otherwise known as "The File Wranglers" by Todd Pittman are a couple of text / sequential file tools for the Commodore 64 to assist in formatting your text / data into a given width, including word wrap and / or splitting the files into smaller ones.  It will also output files to your printer in a friendly manner, including PRG (Program) files. By Gary Vangelder, Sept. 1990 - This program reads a petscii file and sorts it into alpha - numeric order, stripping all punctuation and spaces. Output can be sent to disk, printer or screen.

Velveeta by Kevin Hisel - Here's another utility that could be pretty handy, especially when you want to print out some documentation you found in a sequential (SEQ) file on some random disk, but it was formatted for 40 columns (because that's all our humble C64 has).  Not only can you strip carriage returns, you can also get rid of extra spacing while still honoring the traditional 2 spaces after a . (period). Additionally, it can also strip out non-text characters, so it might be helpful in converting a text file from some other word processor that embedded a bunch of control characters.  Although this utility can process PRG and USR files, I really can't see the usefulness in that, so I'm putting it in the Seq File Tools area. Wordcount64 v1 - Programmed by Parsec, Inc (1993) and uploaded to GEnie on June 24th 1993.  Wordcount for the Commodore 64 is exactly what you'd think, it counts how many words are in a sequential (SEQ) file.  I'm not sure why anyone would ever need this, but if you do, here it is!
