This guide covers various aspects of how to write programs to make use of the memory expansion capabilities of the Final Expansion 3 cartridge for the VIC-20. It does not cover details of the emulated disk drive as this is identical to standard SD2IEC devices.

This guide describes the features of the Final Expansion 3 cartridge for the VIC-20 and how to use them. It also includes reference material for programmers to write software that uses the advanced capabilities of the
cartridge.

The information given in this guide is believed to be accurate, however because there are many hardware and software variations the authors cannot guarantee that a specific system will function exactly as described. The authors would be grateful to hear from you if you find a mistake or omission in this guide.

This guide describes the features of the Final Expansion 3 cartridge for the VIC-20 and how to use them. Some of the details only apply to the “Ultimate Expansion” version of the firmware. It also includes reference material for programmers to write software that uses the advanced capabilities of the cartridge.

The Penultimate +3 DCR is a multi-function cartridge for the Commodore VIC-20 featuring:

• RAM expansion, Menu selectable 0-35K, in 8 banks, giving a total of 280K
• ROM expansion, 271 assorted programs and utilities, ancient and modern including all TFW8b VIC20 titles and many exclusives
• Full size SD card disk drive with integrated file browser, turbo loader and DOS wedge

It is called "DCR" as a nod to the Commodore 128 DCR, where they also took what was a mainboard and a separate disk drive and combined them into a single board.

The VIC 20 PROGRAMMER’S AID CARTRIDGE [VIC 1212] has been designed to help both new and experienced BASIC programmers to write, edit and debug programs quickly and easily.
