   Over the last 10 years I have played with various ways to fight search engines that don't respect the robots.txt rules and users that just snort the site over and over.  Early on I setup registration requirements for all content, but realized quickly that the community really didn't like that, so I restricted myself to publishing only smaller files and used .htaccess and firewall rules to block the biggest offenders.  The downside is that I've been maintaining my archives in two locations, on this site for smaller stuff, and on a NAS for the rest.  Well I've decided it's too much work trying to remember what went where.  That said, anything new that is over a megabyte or two will be tucked away behind a login and I will be moving everything to this site over time.
