Graphic(s) Booster 128 for the Commodore 128 is a third-party graphics expansion from Swiss company Combo AG that plugs into the 80-column VDC (8563) socket and upgrades the C128’s RGB display from the standard 640×200 up to about 720×400 in non-interlace (and 720×700 in interlace), with extra VRAM taking the VDC to a full 64 KB. The supplied software (and later an optional ROM) adds new BASIC 7.0 graphics commands, lets you use higher-resolution bitmaps and denser text modes (up to roughly 80×43 characters), and in the improved “N2” version allows 256 foreground and 256 background colors chosen from a ~65,000-color palette per 6×8 pixel block. Only a handful of programs were patched to exploit it directly—things like StarPainter 128, Protext 128, and GEOS 128—but for power users it effectively turned the C128’s 80-column output into a quasi-EGA-class, high-res workstation display.
