Dragons of Flame on the Commodore 64 is an arcade-style Dragonlance action-adventure and sequel to Heroes of the Lance, retelling the “Dragons of Flame” module / second half of Dragons of Autumn Twilight as a side-scrolling hack-and-slash. You control a party of up to ten Companions of the Lance but fight with one on screen at a time, swapping heroes as you explore outdoor areas and the fortress of Pax Tharkas, dealing with draconians and other foes while jumping pits and obstacles. The game mixes overhead map-style movement with horizontally scrolling combat scenes, but like its predecessor stays light on RPG mechanics, focusing instead on real-time fighting and staying alive long enough to push the story forward through Krynn’s war-torn South.
