Death Sword on the Commodore 64 (better known as Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior in Europe) is a one-on-one fantasy fighting game where two muscular barbarians duel to the death in a side-view arena. You move back and forth, jump, duck, and unleash a surprising variety of joystick moves—overhead chops, thrusts, low sweeps, spinning backslashes, and the infamous “death sword” decapitation strike—trying to deplete your opponent’s health or land a clean beheading so the goblin servant can come out and kick the severed head away. There’s a simple tournament mode where you fight a series of increasingly tough opponents, but the game is most remembered for its visceral, bloody animations and responsive swordplay that made it a cult favorite C64 versus fighter.
