Drol on the Commodore 64 is a side-view platform/shooter where you control a flying robot exploring a four-story underground maze to rescue mesmerized children and animals while dodging an assortment of oddball hazards. Each level is made of stacked platforms with gaps you can drop or fly through, and you must find and touch specific captives—like a red-haired girl and her propeller-beanie brother—while avoiding or blasting enemies such as snakes, demons, axes, and other weird creatures, plus occasional trapdoor choices that can drop you to safety or into instant death. There are only three stages, but once you clear them the game restarts at a higher difficulty with faster and tougher enemies, turning it into a looping high-score challenge built around its distinctive cartoonish graphics and mix of cute rescues and twitchy arcade action.
