Gauntlet on the Commodore 64 is a top-down, arcade-style dungeon crawler where up to two players choose from four fantasy heroes—Thor the Warrior, Thyra the Valkyrie, Questor the Elf, or Merlin the Wizard—and battle through dozens of monster-filled mazes in search of exits, keys, food, and treasure. Each character has distinct strengths in speed, armor, melee, or magic, and you constantly fend off enemies that pour from generators while your health ticks down over time, creating a built-in time limit. Potions act as smart bombs that can clear the screen or wipe out tough foes like Death, while keys open doors and shortcuts to help you survive deeper into the dungeon. The C64 version keeps the core “hack-and-slash with friends” feel of the arcade original, distilling it into a fast, cooperative rush through crowded, trap-laden corridors.
