Cutthroats on the Commodore 64 is an Infocom interactive fiction adventure set on rundown Hardscrabble Island, where you play a hard-up professional diver drawn into a dangerous salvage operation after an old shipmate hands you a map to two legendary shipwrecks and is promptly murdered. From then on you explore the seedy docks, shops, and bars in pure text, juggling strict in-game time limits, ferry schedules, and meetings with a shady cast of would-be partners—some trustworthy, some very much not—as you line up gear and a crew for a single high-stakes dive. The wreck chosen for your treasure hunt is randomized, and once underwater you must navigate the ship, manage air and equipment, and grab the loot before accidents, double-crosses, or simple bad planning end the expedition (and you) for good.
