Epyx FastLoad for the Commodore 64 is a plug-in cartridge that dramatically speeds up disk access with the 1541 drive—often cutting load times to a quarter or less of normal—while also adding a compact DOS-style command set and handy utilities. Once plugged into the expansion port, it auto-installs its own wedge, letting you use short commands for directory listings, disk copying, and file operations, plus a built-in machine code monitor and reset function that returns you to BASIC without power-cycling. Many games and programs remain compatible with it, so for a lot of C64 owners it became a near-permanent “quality of life” upgrade: faster loads, easier disk handling, and quick access to low-level tools all from one little cartridge.
